LOS ANGELES/ACROSS THE ATLANTIC
MONDAY, AUGUST 6

Depart from Los Angeles on board your overnight transatlantic jet flight. Enroute, enjoy a meal followed by a full-length movie.

ARRIVE BERLIN
TUESDAY, AUGUST 7

Arrive in historic Berlin where you will be met and escorted to your waiting motorcoach for the transfer to your hotel. (D)

BERLIN
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8

This morning visit reunited Berlin. In the former West, see Charlottenburg Castle, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, the famous Kurfurstendamm, Bellevue Castle, the Cultural Forum and the Reichstag Building. In former Eastern Berlin, see the Brandenburg Gate at the end of beautiful Unter Den Linden Boulevard, Gendarmen Markt, the Berlin Cathedral, Alexanderplatz, the Nikolai Quarter, and the remains of the Berlin Wall. The afternoon is free to explore Berlin on your own. (B)

BERLIN/WITTENBERG/EISLEBEN/LEIPZIG
THURSDAY, AUGUST 9

Drive to Wittenberg, the city where Luther's activities reached a high point. As a professor of philosophy and theology at Wittenberg University, he made his public appearance by nailing his 95 Theses against the misuse of the indulgence system to the door of the Castle Church, sparking the Reformation movement. Visit the Castle Church, see the Luther Monument in the marketplace, Luther's grave and the City Church of St. Mary where Luther did most of his preaching. Also visit Lutherhalle, his dwelling in the Augusteum which is now a museum of Reformation history containing an unsurpassed collection of Reformation artifacts. Next, drive to Eisleben and visit Luther’s birthplace as well as the house where he died in 1546 and 15th century St. Peter and Paul’s Church where he was baptized. Proceed to Leipzig for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

LEIPZIG/EISENACH/ERFURT
FRIDAY, AUGUST 10

Leipzig, classic city of fairs, books and music, is home to the 13th century Thomas Church immortalized by Bach, where he served as cantor and choir director. It was here in 1519 that Luther debated Johann Eck, and denied the divine origin of papal supremacy. After an orientation tour continue to Eisenach, a refuge for Luther during the stormy days before the Reformation. Visit Wartburg Castle, set on a mountaintop overlooking the city and one of the best-preserved German medieval fortresses. Here Luther worked on a translation of the New Testament, and Richard Wagner, inspired by the Thuringian scenery, wrote the opera, "Tannhauser." See Luther's study, the Reformation room and the lovely paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder. Also worth viewing is the impressive "Angel with Candlestick," painted by
Tilman Riemenschneider in 1500. In the city, visit the Luther House and make a brief stop at St. George Church where Luther preached. Then continue to Erfurt for overnight. (B,D)

ERFURT/PRAGUE
SATURDAY, AUGUST 11

Luther called Erfurt, located in the heart of Thuringia, "a new Bethlehem." It was here on July 2, 1505, that he was struck down by lightning, made his vow to become a monk, and entered the Augustinian Cloister. Visit the Augustiner Church and the Augustinian Monastery. On an orientation tour, view the beautiful St. Severus Church, the 650-year-old Kraemer Bridge lined with houses and small shops, and St. Mary’s Cathedral where Luther was ordained. Depart Erfurt heading East across the Czech border. Drive through the verdant farmlands of Bohemia to historic, 1,000-year-old Prague on the Vltava River. (B,D)

PRAGUE
SUNDAY, AUGUST 12

This morning experience the 1000 years of Prague’s history with a visit to Hradcany Castle, the seat of power for several Czech princes and kings. Proceed to the Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral, the Romanesque Basilica of St. George and Mala Strana (Lesser Town), whose winding streets are lined with small taverns and old houses. Continue to Old Town to see the ancient Town Hall with its animated astronomical clock. The afternoon is at leisure. (B)
Kramer Bridge ~ Prague

PRAGUE/VIENNA
MONDAY, AUGUST 13

Bidding farewell to the Czech Republic’s enchanting capital, head south across the border into Austria and proceed to Vienna, once the center of the mighty Hapsburg Empire. A unique European metropolis, the city itself contains more than a million inhabitants and is set in beautiful surroundings. (B,D)

VIENNA
TUESDAY, AUGUST 14

This morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of Vienna beginning with a drive around the Ringstrasse, one of the most magnificent boulevards in the world. It encloses the Inner City and such noble edifices as the Votive Church, built in 1856, the University, the City Hall and the Opera House. Continue to Schönbrunn Palace with its glorious French Park. The Palace has 1400 rooms and halls, a small zoo and a fine museum of state coaches. Your afternoon is at leisure for shopping or exploring on your own. (B)

VIENNA/SALZBURG
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15

Enjoy views of the scenic Austrian countryside on your drive this morning to the “Sound of Music” city of Salzburg, one of the world's most beautiful places. Upon arrival take an orientation tour of Salzburg which will take you past the most important corners and the most beautiful sights of the city. Drive via the Schloss Mirabell and the Kongresshaus. Continue via Schwarzstrasse and the Protestant Church to the Mozarteum and then past the Marionetten Theatre, Landes Theatre, Marktplatz, and Rathaus to view where Mozart was born. Overnight in Salzburg. (B,D)

SALZBURG/MUNICH AREA
THURSDAY, AUGUST 16

Travel through the Bavarian Alps to Munich, capital of Bavaria. Your orientation tour of Munich takes you via Karolinenplatz and past the 1000-foot-high Television Tower to Nymphenburg, the former Royal Residence. Drive on to Odeon Square with the beautiful Theatiner Church and the Hall of Generals. The afternoon is at leisure. (B,D)

MUNICH/LOS ANGELES
FRIDAY, AUGUST 17

Your journey is over as you transfer to Munich Airport and board your return flight back to Los Angeles, arriving the same day. (B)
